An assessment is a procedure designed to examine your alcohol and/or other drug use habits. Assessments are mandated for every person convicted of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The law requires that your assessment be completed within 14 days after it has been ordered by the Court or within 30 days of a Department of Transportation order. This involves a personal interview with you and an alcohol and other drug abuse counselor, who has been specially trained for the assessment process.
All information obtained through an assessment is strictly confidential in keeping with Federal Regulation (42 CFR, Part II).
Under the Wisconsin Administrative Codes, you have been ordered to complete an assessment. You must contact the Council on Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse within 72 hours of the court date. Failure to do this will result in non-compliance. A non-compliance will result in suspension of your driving privileges including your occupational license and will result in higher costs.
A Driver Safety Plan (DSP) must be developed for each person who is assessed. The plan is designed to help you avoid intoxicated driving in the future. The DSP may specify education and/or treatment. A listing of DSP providers will be given to you to assist in your selection. You are required to contact the provider chosen within 72 hours.
The fee is $ 210.00 and must be paid at the time of your appointment. Assessment fees must be paid in the form of Cash , Money Order, Credit or Debit Cards. No personal checks will be accepted.
If you fail to show up for your assessment interview or do not cancel within the 48 hours, the fee will double.
Reports to the Department of Transportation, Driver Safety Plan Providers and case management are included in the fee.
