Victim Impact Panel

Since August of 2001, the Council has been a member of a Washington-Ozaukee County Task Force offering Victim Impact Panels. Victim Impact Panels provide opportunities for families or other individuals who have had a loved one killed or seriously injured as a result of a drunken driving crash to share their stories with convicted drunk drivers. Most participants were ordered to attend because of 3 or more Operating While Intoxicated convictions.

There is little argument about the powerful emotional and mental impact of attending a Victim Impact Panel.

The message presented to the attendees is not one of judgment, condemnation, or shame. Instead, the goal is to encourage them to think before they, a friend or loved one drinks and drives. With less than 10% of the participants re-offending, we believe participants are hearing the message.
